Prof. Livingstone S. Luboobi

Luboobi is a professor of Biomathematics at Makerere University. After completing his PhD research in 1980, he embarked on popularising Biomathematics in Africa. As an outcome of that endeavour the Department of Mathematics became a Mathematical Modelling node of the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences. Prof. Luboobi has offered courses and supervised researches in: Ecology, Mathematical Epidemiology, Stochastic Processes, and Operations Research in general. His current research interest is in Mathematical Epidemiology especially modelling the in vivo dynamics and effects of diseases such as: HIV/AIDS, Malaria, TB, HBV, HCV, Trypanosomiasis, Dengue fever, Polio, and Schistosomiasis. Mathematical Immunology is the field that is currently fascinating him.

He has supervised thirty-five PhDs and fifty-three MSc’s. He has over 150 publications.  He is a reviewer for over ten journals that publish articles in mathematical biology, ecology, biomedical sciences, and epidemiology.

At the end of his term as Vice Chancellor of Makerere University 2009, he returned to the department to continue with research and lecturing. From February 2016 to March 2021, he was a Visiting Professor of Biomathematics at Strathmore University, Kenya. Currently he is Adjunct Professor of Applied Mathematics at The Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology, Arusha, Tanzania.
